Zachary Copfer, a former microbiologist has now turned his science skills to his new passion:  photography.  He is pushing the envelope with an amazing photo printing technique that uses controlled bacteria to produce images instead of traditional dark room equimpment like developers and photo-sensitive papers. Copfer calls his technique “Bacteriographs” and he is not alone in the pursuit of transforming proteins and bacteria into art.  Continue reading “Bacteriograph: Photographing with Bacteria”

Fundación México Vivo Decima Subasta

El proximo 26 de septiembre tengo el orgullo de apoyar a la Fundación México Vivo con una obra en subasta.  El dinero de la subasta será utilizado para apoyar las actividades de la Fundación en lo referente a VIH/SIDA en México: promoviendo la prevención, la detección oportuna, la investigación y la atención de mejorar su calidad de vida.

Participan más de doscientos artistas en la subasta, y los compradores pueden pagar con tarjeta de crédito.  La subasta será en el Museo de Arte Moderno en D.F., donde los visitantes podrán ver todas las obras expuestas.

The Battle of Balaclava is one of the most famous battles of all time, despite being a comparatively minor engagement in the Crimean War.  The futile heroics of the soldiers who fought there may have gone relatively unnoticed if not for a picture and a poem.

The battle itself is fraught with anecdotes and personalities that combine to make legend. The events of October 25th, 1854 evolve like the episodes of a Greek tragedy, with the fate of the soldiers hinging on the acts of a handful of characters.
