Chun Yeung or North Point Street Market<\/h2>\n

The Chun Yueng Street market in North Point is not the largest, nor best known of Hong Kong\u2019s markets. \u00a0Still relatively unknown to tourists, it is a great way to uncover Hong Kong\u2019s living street culture, and mingle with a market lifestyle that is neighborhood based.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hong Kong\u2019s Street Markets are as legendary as they are cacophonous.\u00a0 As much charm as they hold, most have gentrified and it is difficult to find markets that are not overrun with Western faces. On Chun Yeung, the double deck trollies slowly make their way down the street.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Temple Street Market and among the Ladies\u2019 Market, it isn\u2019t uncommon to find, along the stalls, hand written signs that read: \u201cNo Bargaining\u201d.\u00a0 This is an anathema to the spirit of the markets. But among the stalls of Chun Yeung Street, hawking is still the norm.\u00a0 The market supplies locals their needs during the day and retains its native feel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here, the permanent stores extend their shop space onto the street.\u00a0 Baskets of vegetables, fish, fresh meat, and chicken feet compete for space with clothes and household items.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chun Yeung Street Market – Getting There<\/span><\/h2>\n

Chun Yueng Street is easily accessible by\u00a0tram<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0MTR<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0buses<\/span><\/a>, or taxis. The\u00a0MTR<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is the most convenient from many parts of HK. But since the North Point tram terminal is just right around the corner, it’s an excellent choice as well.<\/span><\/h4>\n

MTR<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Get to the\u00a0North Point<\/span><\/a>\u00a0station on the dark blue line and get off.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Get out of the station through exit A2.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Once above ground, you’re on Marble Road. Turn right and cross Kuk St.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Keep going west on marble Road and cross Tong Shui Rd by going below the overpass (flyover).<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Once on the other side of the overpass, go left and you’ll see Chun Yueng Street on the right.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Tram<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    1. Take an east-bound tram on Hong Kong Island that terminates at\u00a0North Point<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>
      \n(It can be boarded \u00a0from any of these areas: Kennedy Town, Sai Wan,\u00a0      Sheung Wan<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0Central<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0Admiralty<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0Wan Chai<\/span><\/a>,Causeway Bay<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0Tin Hau<\/span><\/a>, Fortress Hill.)<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. The terminal is on Tong Shui Rd. next to an overpass.<\/span>\n
        \n
      • If you get off there, follow the tram track back to the street before it turned. That’s Chun Yeung Street.<\/li>\n
      • If you get off after the tram turns into North Point Rd, you will be at the intersection of North Point Rd and Chun Yeung Street.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
